Amy Barrett is a 2016 participant of the AFI Conservatory Directing Workshop for Women, where she made the episodic short CARRY ME, winner of the Jean Picker Firstenberg Award.
Through the Broad Focus initiative with AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women, Amy was hired by Lifetime to shoot four of the ten episodes of UNREAL: THE AUDITIONS. The series garnered an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Comedy Series Web series.
Her debut short, THE THIRD DATE, played at the Tribeca, Nantucket, London and Santa Monica film festivals. She wrote and directed WHAT SHOULD WE WATCH?, a short film starring Amy Landecker (TRANSPARENT), that debuted at the New Filmmakers Fall Series in New York City. Her short LARS & JONATHAN: A BERLIN FRIENDSHIP was commissioned for the 2014 Magical Secrecy Tour in Berlin.
Amy began her career as a journalist, contributing regularly to The New York Times Magazine and other national publications.
She lives in Los Angeles.
